Get Hooked on Fishing has been running for 18 years and I’ve been involved for almost seven and as Chief Executive Officer for 5½ years now. How the time has flown!

I first became involved in the charity as a volunteer, looking for opportunities for GHoF in my home county of Yorkshire. I then had the exciting challenge of setting up our flagship GHoF project in West London and how that has grown!

Since then, I’ve been able to work with some amazing and dedicated people across the UK and I’ve been able to share the charity’s good practice and successes with groups across Europe. My own fishing frequently takes very much a back seat but I never tire of seeing other people benefit from angling in their own very personal ways. If I do have the opportunity for a couple of hours on the bank, then my local river is where I head. Armed with the bare minimum of lure fishing kit, I go in search of a few perch. You’ll know it’s me, I’m the one in pink!

I am particular proud of the dedication of our staff and volunteers, day in, day out and in all weathers! We try to ensure that our activity can take place all year round by adapting what we do. In the future, we’ll have a series of ‘Meet the Team!’ blogs from our staff, volunteers and representatives from our Board of Trustees.

I am also very proud of the partnerships that we’ve been able to develop and sustain nationally, regionally and locally. The Environment Agency, Angling Trust, fisheries, local councils, schools and community groups are just some of our partners. We couldn’t manage to achieve what we do on our own!

It’s fair to say that two days are never the same and that’s what I love, the variety! It’s impossible to predict what the next phone call or enquiry will be about. We frequently say that we wish we could do more and during 2018 that’s what we’ll try and achieve. We’re aiming to increase public awareness of what GHoF does both within the angling community and beyond.

So, if you’d like to find our more then, e-mail us at hello@ghof.org.uk

If you’ve been involved with our charity and would like to write a blog for us then do get in touch, we’d love to hear from you!
