#ThisGirlCan and #angling

So today draws a close on what has been a brilliant and successful #ThisGirlCan campaign for This Girl Can 2018. This Girl Can is all about increasing activity amongst women, no matter what ability, age or experience; it is possible to get out there and be more active.

We believe that angling is a fantastic way to get into the outside world. Step into nature, into the outdoors and appreciate the quietness that is holds. It is easy to think that going fishing is slow-paced, however, this is not the case, it has proven time and time again to have numerous health benefits and can be an extremely active sport.

No matter what your age, ability or experience level, there is a type of angling out there that suits everybody! Angling can involve a whole range of low, medium and high intensity physical activity.

Angling has proven to help recovery and even prevention of mental health issues. Alongside this, it is a brilliant way to relax and aids your concentration. Not only can angling allow these aids to help you on your journey but it helps build relationships, confidence and reduce isolation!

Here at Get Hooked on Fishing we believe that everyone, no matter what circumstance, age, ability or experience, should have the opportunity to try fishing. We make sure it's simple to understand, and most of all you have fun while doing it! However, we don’t just take kids fishing. We work with schools, pupil referral units and community groups through the week. Our aim to achieve the life chances of these young people and those who face challenging circumstances. We reach out to the wider public with our ‘Have a Go’ sessions – these sessions are low-cost, and for those who would like to try fishing, but don’t know how to start, where to go, or what to do! We show everyone no matter what age, ability or gender that fishing is simple, fun, safe and most of all, affordable.

We wanted to raise awareness that #angling doesn’t just have to be male-dominated, women can equally be as involved in the sport, and have just as much positive image on it.
